Creating a New Class

Creating a new class is straight forward. To start, enter the name of the class.
Provide a brief description of the class, if you wish.
Also, you may enter the class period and grade level to better organize multiple classes.
Detailed Class View

The basic class information is clearly displayed, including a class code that is provided to students to join the class.
There is quick access to the active assignments for the class. Assignments past their due date are highlighted and the number of new comments is indicated.
The list of recent messages for the class is available, plus a link to review past messages and comments.
Each class has its own student roster and gradebook.
Detailed Assignment View

-
The assignment title, due date, and description are displayed at the top.
Teachers may attach files to assignments, as easily as attaching a file to an email. The resources may be added from their computer or from their HotChalk resources.
-
Students and teachers may add comments and collaborate together. Commenting is turned off once the assignment is graded or completed. But the existing comments remain for future reference.
Teachers may easily delete inappropriate comments.
Inviting Students to a Class

Teachers may provide the class code to students, which they can use to join the class. This is only required once; after joining, students will receive all assignments and messages for the class.
Alternatively, teachers may enter the email addresses of their students to send an email invitation to join the class.
Class Gradebook
The class gradebook is simple and clean, making it easy on the eyes when scanning the dense data of students, assignments and grades.
Dynamic controls let you swiftly scroll through the entire student roster. No need to deal with long lists; you've got to see it to believe it.
Click on any assignment to view its details, such as due date, the comments added, etc.
Adding a New Assignment
It only takes a few minutes to post an assignment and distribute it to the students. First, provide the assignment a title.
Write the assignment description or instructions. The assignment information can be edited and updated once posted, as well.
Provide a due date and the assignment will be posted to the class in chronological order. Students will always know what's due next.
Posting a New Message
Posting a new message is as easy as sending an email. But unlike email, it's much easier to manage. No more lost messages, forgetting to reply-all, or bad email addresses. All messages are centrally posted to the class.
