Adequate funding remains a huge challenge for schools in these days
of tightened belts. The following tips are courtesy of Douglas Brooks,
an educator and grant writing specialist.
- Know what you want and need to fund. There is a difference.
- Find the right funding source. Their mission must match your need.
- Create an Action Summary. Make sure you are eligible.
- Create a Grant Writing Guide. Give yourself a chance to succeed.
- Create a Key Vocabulary Sheet. Write using the language of the RFP.
- Build a Grant Writing Team. Grant narratives have different parts and require different skills.
- Improve prior text every time you write. Make sure today’s work matches yesterday’s production.
- Name your grant application. “Project Achieve” is a great sentence starter.
- Write clear objectives that reflect your needs and the goals of the grant application.
- Shorten your sentences. Make your grant easy to understand.
