It seems as if we are constantly hearing how tough times are right now (for some they are). I know many of you are thinking that it would be great to save money for retirement and live a wealthy life but you just don't make enough to do so. Well, I am here to tell you that you can. My name is Danny Kofke and like some of you, I am a teacher. I currently teach special needs children in Georgia. My wife, Tracy, was a school teacher before becoming a stay-at-home mom to my two young daughters. That's right, we have two children and make it on a teacher's salary. Not only do we make it, but I like to think we thrive on my teacher's salary. You see, in addition to being able to have Tracy stay home, we have no debt except our house - which we actually just refinanced to a 15-year term which will save us almost $100,000 from our original 30-year loan-, we have a 1-year emergency fund in place, invest so that we will retire with a Danny Kofke is currently a special education teacher. He has also taught pre-school, kindergarten, first and second grade classes. Danny's love of teaching and finances led him to write the book "How To Survive (and perhaps thrive) On A Teacher's Salary." Danny resides in Hoschton, Georgia with his wife Tracy and two daughters, Ava and Ella.

I would like to respond to the 40-year old who is trying to get certified. I am 52 and have only been graduated for 2 years. The Lord blessed me and I have a position working with struggling elementary students. I am on the verge of completing my Master's, at which point I hope to teach at community college. So I know the struggles you are going through. Hang in there and if you are meant to teach, it will happen.

Let me tell you you already know that if you are not certified that you cannot go and do anything. currently I have one exam to pass that I just took and if I do not pass it I really do not have a back up plan. Any suggestions.

I learned to live well on a teacher's salary, it just took me awhile to do it. First Dave Ramsey is great and I listened to him for years. I now have no debt on cars or credit cards and money in savings and save each month. What's the secert to doing this? I retired from teaching in one state and went right back to teaching in another. Now with twice the income,(actually my retirement is higher than my salary in new state)I can live like a person should. Not only have I been able to be debt free, I have been able take up a hobby that I always wanted and we have went on mission trips too. YOu just have to hang on and try to make the best effort.

Hi Geeta,
Thank you so much for reading my blog and for your interest in my book. You can order my book directly from me, from my publisher (Tate Publishing Company) or on amazon.com. I think the shipping might be high though - I am not sure what it would cost to send a book from The States to India. I did a site that sells books in India. Here is the link: http://www.flipkart.com/survive-danny-kofke-perhaps-thrive/1598869027-ctx3f4ndkf I hope this helps you Geeta and thanks again! Danny report abuse
