What is HotChalk?

The HotChalk Learning Environment is a collaborative online resource for preK-12 teachers, students and parents. It provides an easy-to-use learning management system (LMS) accessible by any Internet browser, a media-rich library of teacher-contributed lesson plans and digital content, including audio, video, textbook, and assessment content, as well as a collaborative education portal with articles and blogs.

What is HotChalk’s Mission?

HotChalk’s mission is “Improve the Lives of Teachers” by giving them the tools to:

• Automate repetitive daily classroom tasks like assignments, homework and grading
• Improve teacher-parent-student communication on daily progress and assignment status via secure login and email
• Quickly access thousands of ‘teacher approved’ lesson plans and materials
• Deliver valuable digital content from the best education producers directly into the classroom
• Participate in an online community of educators and thought leaders on current educational issues

Who is HotChalk for?

HotChalk is for preK-12 teachers, librarians, curriculum managers and technical administrators who wish to provide students a superior educational experience that will drive academic achievement. For districts and schools, HotChalk includes an digital distribution system, including a content and curriculum managers, that gives schools, districts and regional entities the ability select, add and then deliver multiple types of digital content to teachers and students. 

How much does HotChalk cost?

HotChalk’s online tools and community content are free. Premium content requires a paid subscription after a free trial.

What subjects does HotChalk cover?

HotChalk covers all preK-12 subjects, including Math, Science, Music, Language Arts, Computers & Internet, Social Studies, Art and Physical Education.

Does a school have to be signed up in order to use HotChalk?

No. Teachers, students and parents can use HotChalk for free even if their school is not listed in HotChalk.

Can parents monitor their child’s progress?

Yes. HotChalk gets parents more involved in a child’s education. Parents just need to register and enter the student’s code for safe and immediate access to his/her academic progress.

How many use HotChalk?

On HotChalk there are over 500,000 registered teachers in over 100,000 schools from 188 countries.

HotChalk is getting better, that’s what! As you can tell, we've updated the look and feel of HotChalk to make the interface less cluttered and more interactive. The changes being made aren’t just visual, however... we’re constantly upgrading features and functionality as well!

At HotChalk, we're always making changes to keep up with the constant changing needs of our users. Often these changes are small and go undetected, but sometimes big strides are necessary to keep up with hard-working teachers moving at the speed of light.
