Many teachers would like a document camera to project student work, authentic documents, and objects so that the whole class can see the material.
Unfortunately, all classes do not have document cameras. If your school has a camcorder and a tripod and you have an LCD projection device in the room, then you can create a temporary document camera. You remove the cords from the camcorder bag, connect the audio cable from the camcorder audio out to the LCD audio in, and then connect the video cable from the camcorder video out to the LCD video in. Next, put the camcorder on the tripod and position the camera so that the camera faces down toward where the student's paper will be. You may need to adjust the height of the tripod or the focus on the camcorder. When the camcorder and the LCD device are turned on, the LCD will project what the camcorder is focused on. Once you have set this up once, the second time is much easier. One teacher labels the cords with a colored tags to make it easier for her to match which cable goes where. She puts a white tag on the camcorder audio output and on the LCD audio input for the audio connections and a yellow tag on all the video connections for both the camcorder and the LCD so that they next time she can quickly assemble her “document camera.” Are you ready to create a document camera for your room for a special project?
