This week we lost one of HotChalk’s most important, influential and inspiring advocates. Tim Russert, a clear, objective voice in the always-spinning world of politics passed away on Friday leaving a wife, a son and an extended family of millions.
Russert, famous for his work ethic and preparation, was fearless when pressing a truth on a subject and using the lens of journalism to give us information to make the kinds of decisions that carry democracies forward. I was delighted, not surprised, to learn that before he took the role of headmaster for the nation’s capital, he was a history teacher. Please join me on this page and leave a comment as your electronic signature to HotChalk’s memoriam of this remarkable man who gave of himself and left the world a better place.

It will be an empty seat on "Meet the Press," as Tim Russert was great interviewer who asked honest questions of his guests. He will truly be missed, especially during this exciting presidential race. Our hearts go to his wife, son and family, and his staff.

Tim Russert's family gave his admirers an eternal gift; they let us share him with them. As I found out more about this outstanding man, I realized that his true passion was celebrating the contributions of the "everyday heroes" just as he saw himself.

It is very sad to lose a truly objective and straight shooter of a reporter and news anchor like Tim Russert. We don't come across too many news people like Tim Russert who showed whole hearted dedication to his service to guests and audience alike. He will definitely be missed.

It's amazing how much a stranger can feel like a close friend. I was a faithful view of Meet the Press and my prayers go to his family and friends. He was a pillar of objectivity and commitment. He made me a better educator in challenging my students, especially those in my American Government classes.
Thanks Tim! report abuse

Tim will truly be missed. He drove home the fact that people will respect you more if you don't compromise your integrity to prove a point.

I was so deeply saddened to learn about Tim Russert's passing last Friday. Whatever issue he touched, he did so with integrity. You knew he would always get to the heart of any matter when you listened. He was honest and forthright in the way he conducted his interviews and discussions in what was important to many of us. He was a caring family man, and my heart and prayers go out to his family. I will miss his truth and tell it like it is messages. God Bless You Tim and Your Family!

It was with great sadness to have one of the best reporters/journalists die. Not only was he a man of courage taking on every possible person/problem Americans face on MEET THE PRESS, but I found Mr. Russert to be a real human being. By this I mean he always talked about his family as well as other people, which is why I enjoyed watching whatever broadcast he did. The world lost one great human being who will never be forgotten. The person who takes over the show will be filling really big shoes.

I feel as though I have lost a good and trusted friend. I could always depend on Tim Russert to tell it like it really is - he will never be replaced though someone else may sit in his chair. My prayers are with his son and wife. We will all miss his optimism and candor as well as his easy style.

Tim Russert always gave a straight forward honest view into the political world that I haven't seen come from any other. He knew his information well and we will all miss out on the honest connection to our politics.
To his wife, son, family and friends our hearts are with you and we will keep you in our prayers. God Bless! report abuse

I, like so many others was shocked and so saddened at the news of Tim's passing. My older sister and I cried. His voice was such a part of my political life and my Sunday morning that a void has been left that won't easily be filled. I didn't realize that he not only informed, but he managed to worm his way into our hearts. He was truly a great one and shall be missed. His wife and son, Luke, should be proud. What a country!

Even though I did not know Tim Russert personally, I felt as though I did. I am almost afraid to watch now. Can they even continue with Meet the Press?! Who can begin to fill those shoes, that spot, that dedication and love for his work, his family, and his country. I learned a lot about politics and current events from him and his guests. The way he died made me think of and miss even more my big brother who died four years ago of the same kind of heart attack at only 55. He was a comedian who loved his work and performed the night before. I know the grief of such a sudden loss. These are the words on a card I received when I lost my mother just 11 months before my brother died. I revised them for Luke: "You'll never forget your father's face, the sound of his voice, the tenderness of his touch...They let you know you were loved. You'll never forget the stories he told, the traditions he handed down...they let you know who you are. You'll never forget the lessons he taught, the things he stood for...They are his gift and your legacy. You'll never forget and you'll always know that you honor him everyday in how you live and who you are." I know that Luke will do his father proud. I also send my sympathy and best wishes to Mrs. Russert and to Big Russ as well.

My favorite quote from Tim Russert is the one below from an interview regarding Hurricane Katrina:
