I work in a middle school as a language arts teacher. I was previously a special education teacher who co-taught in the general education classroom. We pride ourselves on our ability to build a collaborative team which includes all students. We work together and share our resources and celebrate our strengths. I think a team merit pay should be chosen over individual merit pay in order to encourage this type of competition which benefits the students. If merit pay is given to individuals it wiill foster unhealthy competition. Will I want to share my ideas or keep them to myself. Will I give others credit at the risk of making them look like the better teacher. Will I have to walk around telling everyone how wonderful I am? It there is merit pay I think it should be given to an entire school or atleast a team of teachers. Otherewise the students won't be the only ones who will need to be protected from bullies. Votes: +2
