Founded in 2004, HotChalk’s mission is to “Improve the Lives of Teachers”. HotChalk is a collaborative online resource for preK-12 teachers, students and parents that includes a learning management system accessible by any Internet browser, a media rich library of teacher-contributed lesson plans and premium digital content, including audio, video, textbook, supplemental and assessment content, and professional online development for teachers.
With HotChalk, teachers finally have tools they need to find, share, and rate lesson plans and automate routine classroom tasks such as managing, grading, and distributing homework. It also delivers convenient access to NBC News video content so curriculum is more relevant and powerful. HotChalk’s professional development courses from McGraw-Hill Education division give teachers the chance to improve their technique and meet certification requirements.
For teachers, HotChalk is like having a full-time assistant dedicated to researching lesson plans, creating curriculum, and distributing, collecting and grading assignments. These teachers can create, locate and share content supporting subject, grade level and state standards. They distribute lessons and instructions to students—and send progress reports to parents.
HotChalk helps students stay organized by empowering them to manage homework due dates, retrieve their homework and submit completed assignments. Students receive immediate access to grades and much-needed instructional notes and feedback from teachers.
Parents get actively involved in a child’s education with intelligence gathered on HotChalk and through e-mail notifications. They closely monitor a child’s academic performance, identifying areas that need attention well before report card time. With automatic notifications of homework status and grades, parents are certain homework has really been completed and no notes from teachers are left in a book bag.
HotChalk’s partnership with NBC News means historic footage, mini-documentaries and current event news are brought into the classroom via a simple download from the NBC Video tab inside the HotChalk Learning Environment.
Due to the offerings from McGraw-Hill Professional Development, HotChalk gives teachers tools develop skills, learn the latest subjects of interest and import, and prepare for testing.
