Rob Wrubel

Chief Executive Officer

Rob Wrubel has spent more than 25 years working as a technology and marketing entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, bringing to life multiple companies and brands. Most recently, Rob served as a strategic advisor to online education and consumer start-ups, including Fuse Universal, Generation Tux, and Common Sense Education. Prior to that, Rob spent eight years as an executive leader at Apollo Education Group, the country’s largest online education provider. At Apollo, he played multiple key roles as Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Product Officer, and Chief Innovation Officer. Before Apollo, Rob was the CEO of Aptimus, a public market online marketing platform company. Before Aptimus, he was the founding CEO of Yoga Works, a national yoga and alternative fitness company. Rob was the founding CEO of Ask Jeeves, a leading search engine and consumer online brand. Prior to that, Rob was the Chief Operating Officer at Knowledge Adventure, the country’s leading publisher of educational software. Rob has a bachelor’s degree in History from Yale University.

Dr. Kai Roemmelt

Chief Operating Officer

Dr. Kai Römmelt has 15 years of professional experience in strategy, M&A and change management. Before joining HotChalk, Kai spent more than 10 years with Bertelsmann in multiple roles across the US, Australia and Germany. He was part of the founding team of the Bertelsmann Education Group and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Alliant International University. Prior to his work with the Education Group he was responsible for the global integration of the world’s largest book publishers Penguin and Random House. Kai holds a MBA from the European Business School (Germany) and a Doctorate from the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland).

Michael Sullivan

Chief Marketing Officer

Michael Sullivan is an entrepreneurial, creative business professional with proven expertise in brand development, marketing strategy, experience design, and digital marketing. Most recently, he co-founded and led Chroma, a marketing and innovation consultancy that provided marketing transformation services to colleges, universities and education consortiums. Prior to that, Michael spent five years at Apollo Education Group, where he served as Senior Vice President of Brand and Media Services. Before his time at Apollo, he was Senior Vice President of Marketing & Product at Aptimus, an online marketing company. Michael’s agency experience began during the creation of the internet marketing economy, where he launched, incubated and led three successful digital marketing agencies, serving some of the world’s most recognizable brands. He also led global marketing for Pinnacle Microsystems and began his career at International Data Group (IDG) where his responsibilities scaled to include new product development. Michael has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bryant University.

Mary Jane Pearson, Ph.D.

Chief Academic Officer

Mary Jane Pearson, Ph.D., has been involved in “educator education” for more than 30 years. Dr. Pearson’s unique credentials as a teacher educator include chairing the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC), the largest educator licensing agency in the U.S. During her nine-year tenure as a commissioner, she co-authored the research on beginning teacher support and assessment that has become the worldwide standard for the support of new teachers. In addition, Dr. Pearson was appointed by the U.S. president to serve as the regional representative for the U.S. Department of Education. In recognition of her service to education, Dr. Pearson was named California Teacher Educator of the Year. Dr. Pearson earned her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas.
